In Salinger's day, though, didn't "nice girl" usually mean a non-promiscuous one? After all, the term "nice boy" wasn't exactly thrown around much, and "good boy" usually had a different connotation. I see your point, though, and it's certainly possible that you're correct. From Eloise's badgering of her daughter, I can see why being "nice" might just mean gentleness or sweetness. Cheryl
