Actually Bruce, your imagined series is close to the plot of a short story
in W.P. Kinsella's _The Thrill of the Grass_. My books are in boxes--this
month is mostly about moving from Bloomfield to Branford but I will still
be Uncle William in Connecticut. Even if I can't tell you the exact story
in the collection, I can say it's one of the most deligthful collections
of short stories and won't require a love of sports--if time permits, pick
it up...after all, we are talking about the author of _Shoeless Joe_
(Later made into _Field of Dreams_), not Ray Kinsella, the Salinger
character.
