I've wanted to bring this up for some time. It drives me crazy when people
pronounce Zooey as though it rhymed with Chloe or Zoe! I don't know how to
properly accent these words with my e-mail program, and those of you with
plain text won't be able to see it anyway. So, sorry for not being able to
demonstrate that if Zooey was supposed to rhyme with Joey, it would have un
accent trema-those two little dots-over the E and be spelled "Zoe." Dammit!

I think I've argued more about the pronunciation of Zooey's name than about
any other aspect of Salinger's works. Anyway, if you meet any sticklers who
insist that it's pronounced "Zoe," just start calling Franny "Fran-aye" and
maybe they'll get the point.

There're two "O"s

Right on!
