This is, among other things, another attempt to raise
Kozusko the missing Wortmeister. He, surely, will
answer my need.
If 'epiphany' suggests a moment of revelation, amn't I
right in thinking it has an ecstatic flavour? The ravishing
by joy at the glimpse God's face flashing momentarily
through the surface of the everyday?
What I'm looking for is its opposite. The moment when
timor mortis conturbat me. Eliot's skull peeping out
from beneath the skin. Or his other one about (???)
the crack in the teacup opening up the road to hell (???)
Because.
That is what I experienced at Paul's casual mention that
he'd wanted to give his daughter one of the loveliest
& most redolent names in the English language '... but
The IN-LAWS nixed it instantly ...'
Suddenly that Frans Hals diamond trader was replaced
in my mind with a miserable little helot, shivering & grimy,
dragging in the winter supply of cordwood to the accompaniment
of raucous laughter & casual kicks administered by
a monstrous Winnipeg Witch & her even more appalling
Coquitlam Mum & Dad.
Say it isn't so. Though I doubt anyone will believe it.
Scottie B.
