This is just the latest demonstration why The Great Recluse
in the Sky arranges everything for the best & why,
in particular, he has let it come about the Tim should be
Nuestro Presidente. He writes, as usual, with the generosity
& tact that we don’t, perhaps, all deserve.
What he would call my growling is simply one of the masks
covering my envious, even awed, admiration for these same
Bananafish who write with such clarity & vigour in something
other than their native tongue. It’s one hell of a distance
from my own blushing attempts to convey to some French girl
that the pen of my uncle finds itself upon the table ...
Do, please, please continue. This place badly needs a whiff
of Gauloise. And another drop of Genever.
In the meanwhile, I’m going to suggest to Tim that we inaugurate
a Great Grandfather’s Day - the only one for which I could be
personally eligible.
