Jim,

I am trying to suggest that we collectively decide to
curb the behavior, yes. I never said "STOP!" or
anything rude like that, though. I said "let's be
careful". What's wrong with expecting that the topic
here stay on things literary? It seems elementary. If
you subscribed to a "Keats poem of the week" e-mail
club, would you mind if they started sending you
pornographic material, too, and said "unsubscribe if
you don't like it" when you complained? That'd be
pretty cold, wouldn't it?

Honestly, I don't understand the "don't tell me what
to say, I'll say whatever the heck I want" line. It's
just gonna make people unsubscribe because they'll
lose interest in the soap-boxing, even if it goes on
for less than a day. Why would you want that? (And why
is it that I only experience this when dealing with my
fellow Americans I wonder)?
