I wish to contribute to this conversation my unstudied but earnest
support for Bill Clinton.

Perhaps Sean will consider adding to his list of desirable qualities a
privison, under IQ: the kind of compulsive intelligence that gives a
person an air of capacity and presence.

It is easier to have pride and confidence in a leader whose opinions
appear to be the work of his own convictions and whose dedication to
this or that cause seems to derive from a native thoughtfulness. At the
very least, a leader who appears to possess a native thoughtfulness.

As U.S. republicans appear to be on the verge of selecting George W.
Bush as their nominee this election, I begin to worry seriously about
what it would be like to have a soft, poorly-spoken frat boy as
president. Issues aside, sexual exploits aside, etc. It would be
difficult for some people to take Bush seriously.
