Sasha:

My first experience with "The Sound and the Fury" was remarkably similar
to yours. I read the first section and put the book down, having shed
tears a couple of times along the way. I didn't even understand what
the hell was going on. Something about the stream of conciousness that
moved me tremendously. I didn't go back to it until I had read
"Absolom, Absolom" and also talked in length about Faulkner,
Yaknaphatapha County and all that. (Note, your spelling foibles are
eclipsed by mine).

On O'Connor, she really is the something else. Did you see "Sling
Blade"? I found the story, aside from the warm fuzzy stuff, smacked of
an O'Connor plot. "Yeh, what you doin wit that blade, boy?" "I reckon I
came over hear to kill you wit it." Great stuff.

Cheers
