I totally agree with you Helena - me and my boyfriend disagree on a lot of things art wise and I've long ago given up on segregating my friends into those who `get it' and those who don't. You learn to live with it and it's always interesting to see things from another point of view. You find a lot of hostile reactions to Salinger, esp TCIR - you either love it or hate it. It's funny, but I felt the same way as you about `On The Road' (which from the look of recent posts will make us a) a minority and b) unpopular) - I'm currently wading through a copy of Burrough's `Naked Lunch' which I found on the side of the road but I haven't formed an opinion on it yet. Hey, I hated `Boogie Nights' too and it got some brilliant reviews over here! (not to mention Oscar nominations) Differentstrokes, etc etc. And my boyfriend is a great guy & not afraid to expresshis opinions, so that's what matters!
