Well, either by miracle or by Tim's timely intervention (is there a
difference??), my emails to the list are no longer drifting off,
unbound, into space. So briefly, about that name "clinamen":

I used to go by "clinamen" years ago, just after I first
abandoned "zooey" (yes, yes...*lower case*). In fact, if you check the
archives, I do not doubt but you will find there the skeleton of a
previous list personality.

Feste talks of "misprision in the highest degree" as Olivia
steps into his trap in act I of _12th Night_. Harold Bloom's
alternative phrase for "clinamen" is "poetic misprision." A fortuitous
deviation, or swerving, from what has gone before. A critical
misreading. As far as nicknames go, simultaneoulsy pompous and
mysterious.

And it can never be bad to be thought to read the ancient Greeks. "Ah,
Dedalus, the Greeks. I must teach you..."

But as you can see, I've rectified the situation. Too many southern
Baptists on my group distribution lists...they all thought I was talking
about skin diseases or perverted sexualities. Nature in her bias draws
to that, I'm afraid. Now that I am in England, among the neo-Laudians,
I figured maybe I could get away with a little mischief!

Now, let's hear a little bit about "citycabn," and all of Jim's various
usernames.
