Well, hello, dearest. I've missed you. Just the other day our "Orpheus.
Eurydice. Hermes" dialogue was dusted off by a fellow listmember, and I
was thinking of you. Perhaps I conjured you with my thoughts.

Hmm. That last sentence of mine reminds me of line from a poem, "Mad
Girl's Love Song" by Sylvia Plath. The line goes something like: "(I
think I made you up inside my head.)" Do you know it? Oh, heck. Hold on
a second, and I'll find it.

Ah. Here it is. It's a villanelle, perhaps my favorite form of poetry:

Mad Girl's Love Song
Sylvia Plath
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

Welcome back, you. I'm going to have to go dig my beaver coat from the
mothballs.

Regards,
Cecilia.

(Oh. Bruce and Mattis have departed, and Matt K. claims that he looks in
from time to time, but he's working on his dissertation and can't allow
the fish to suck him in.)
