i only know that when catcher was published in britain first, it was an
adulterated version, ie some editor had gone through the whole thing,
changing 'mom' to 'mum', removing the clause 'if you want to know the
truth' from the first sentence, etc etc. i wasn't aware that they'd done
it to f&z as well.
