I've been curious about this movie ... I pass "Hammerin' Hank's"
tenement every day while walking to work. There's a little brass
plaque and everything.

I also work a couple of blocks away from the house where Poe lived
while he wrote at least part of "The Raven," a tiny little building
(the last Manhattan location where Poe lived) that is to be torn down
by NYU, to allow construction of another glass box. This building
does not have a memorial to Poe and, indeed, has nothing to indicate
its literary history, other than the groups of protesters standing in
front of it.

ObSal: There are no houses that say "J.D. Salinger lived here,"
either. Quite a contrast to walking in Paris, where notable literary
people are memorialized widely (though not, to my knowledge, Ernest
Hemingway -- I've looked hard to find a single plaque there
commemorating one of his homes or haunts, and failed to locate any).

There is a book (published by a university press, I think) that
details homes of literary figures in New York. Old Jerry rates a few
mentions in there....
