Sorry about the insomnia. No, I'm afraid St. Genet came from much humbler
beginnings. Born to an addicted mother who did not want him (her name, I
believe, was Gabrielle) and an unknown father, he was defined early in his
life, according to his biographer Sartre, when his mother named him with an
accusation: "thief."
But I love Genet, as well as the much more aristocratic Frenchman who wrote
the autobiographical remarks I cited in # 25.
