Of all the antonyms I could have thought of for "phony" I would never have
thought "nice" would be one of them. Guess that's because in my own way I
always saw "niceness" or "decency" as the sheep's clothing that phoniness
wears. And of all the truly "real" people I've ever known, the first word
you'd think to describe them would not be "nice." Maybe hysterical, pensive,
insightful, articulate, analytical, wary, cynical, beatific, rapturous,
jubilant....but not merely "nice." That's like saying that Bob Dylan is
"good."
