You people saved the rest of us in two global wars.

skotti makes it sound like it was such a philanthropic, altruistic act, but in fact
this was rightly judged by Roosevelt ultimately, as a bid for world power.
He played and won.
Talking about 'innocence' .... or should we say 'naive'?
Pearl Harbor helped him, or forced him into action

I think I detect the same tones now: the voices urging forebearance
& an understanding of your assailant. Be reasonable, they say,
don’t strike back, see where he’s coming from, be a little more
generous – and so on. Which is exactly what the statemen of
the Thirties tried. Most of them had known the horrific reality
of war at first hand & felt that anything other was preferable.

Really, your detection skills need upgrading. Nobody is saying let these people
go. But you cannot strike blindly at some countries just because they have long
beards and basically one doesn't really LIKE those countries.
This is not a Chamberlainistic 'appeasement' but rather a common sense (strange
expression by the way, sense is never that common) approach of getting
the facts right before one uses force.

It didn’t work though. Talking gently when the other chap
has the big stick – or has just thumped you – gets you nowhere,
except a little bit further back down the street. A couple of
Huns lying dead on a Rhine bridge in 1937 would have saved
many millions over the next decade.

Are you fighting the last war?

As the dominant empire this is the lesson America has to learn.
By your very position you can never hope to be loved.

Eeeh sorry? Never be loved? What are you talking about? You love
America, don't you? So do lots of other people. Sure, America is feared
as well, but also loved, rest assured.

Stop trying. The Romans had no qualms about razing a couple
of Black Forest villages from time to time.

And this is a good thing? Oh sorry yes it is, the Black Forrest, that's Germans
anyway, they deserve it.

Only with the triumph of Christian
caritas did we sink into stinking morass of the Dark Ages.
oooo, do i smell a personal rat here?

We’ve had two Pear Harbours now. Surely to God we don’t
     need a third.

If you're confusing these attacks with Pearl Harbour, you really need
to do something about your history indeed. The Americans are trying to
sell it to us like that, like a 'war', and one has to admire their PR-skills
which are impressive, but this thing is anything but a war, and surely not
despite some similarities, Pearl Harbour the Sequel.

Maybe you are also confusing 'democracy' with a policy of indifference
towards weaker peoples and countries? Just asking.

Z.
