It's hard to avoid the conclusion that emergent events
have quite a bit to do with what is beginning to look
like a mass exodus from the list: as if the world had become
too desperate a place to accommodate the ponderings
    of that finicky, self-absorbed sensibility.
And it is, of course, a ridiculous waste of time to spend
    on something so essentially unimportant.
    But IT'S WHAT WE DO.
It seems to me that when great minds like ours abandon
light-hearted trivia civilisation begins really to be threatened.
We might all just as well then go & sit in some Afghan cave
(or Dutch bar), fasten some towels round our heads & start
considering what the Prophet could possinbly have meant
    in this verse or that.
Come back, Cec. Come back, Sean. Don't go, Andy.
    Please.
    Scottie B.
