Subject: CW99 Online Call for Proposals

Please feel free to forward this post to anyone or any list you think
might be interested. We would be especially grateful for any help
getting the word out to K-12 teachers, an audience we would very
much like to welcome at this conference and need some help reaching.
Thanks for your patience if you receive multiple copies of this.

* * Announcing the Computers and Writing '99 Online Conference! * *

As part of the 15th Computers and Writing Conference, CW99 Online offers
you a chance to participate in online conference events dedicated to the
conference theme of Tradition and Technology. These will be unique
events--not simply "too bad you won't be there for the real thing" versions
of what you'll get in South Dakota! CW99 Online runs from March
1 to June 7, 1999 and will include keynote speakers, presentations,
roundtables, panels, workshops, Town Hall sessions, and discussions in many
forums. We'll hold real-time events on the MOO Connections, and we'll use
listservs for ongoing discussions.

Please see the CW99 Online site, linked to the conference page at

http://cw99.sdsmt.edu/

or go directly to the CW99 Online page at

http://web.nwe.ufl.edu/~tari/cw99online/

We invite your proposals for workshops, panels, presentations, roundtables,
and any other kind of session you can imagine holding on a MOO. We intend
to provide lots of support for new MOOers who want to present, so don't
worry if you don't know how to use a MOO. We'll also hold new MOOers
sessions for those who need some help in order to attend events.

Get involved in CW99 Online now--propose a session, become a CW99 Online
volunteer--or do both and get *two* lines on your vita! See the web site
for all the information you need, and if you can't find what you need
there, please write to one of us!

In the next few weeks, we'll hold a few sessions on Connections designed to
help potential CW99 Online presenters--especially those unfamiliar with
MOOs--get started thinking about what they might propose for CW99 online.
We will vary the days and times of these sessions in an effort to
accommodate everyone's schedules and time zone differences. Of course,
you aren't required to attend any of these sessions if you don't need
them, but if you do, watch this list or the CW99 Online web site for the
schedule.

On Sunday, October 4, from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. EDT, we'll hold the
first of these information and orientation sessions. From 3:00 p.m. to
3:30 p.m. EDT, we'll help novice MOOers get a feel for using Connections.
>From 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT, we'll talk about what kinds of sessions
work well on a MOO, and demonstrate a variety of easy-to-use tools for
aiding presentations, workshops, round tables, and so on. From 4:00
p.m. to 4:30 p.m., we invite people to brainstorm about possible topics and
kinds of presentations, and look for collaborators if they wish.

You can join us for any or all of those topics, depending on your
needs. Connections's home page is at

http://web.nwe.ufl.edu/~tari/connections

You'll find helpsheets there for getting connected and using basic MOO
commands. Please feel free to write to Tari Fanderclai at tari@nwe.ufl.edu
and ask for a character before this session, or join us by using a guest
character.

We'll probably be moving around some during the session, so when you get to
Connections, enter the command "join tari" (without the quotation marks) in
order to find us.

Join us at an orientation session! Check out our job list and volunteer
for a task! Send us a proposal! And start planning now to participate in
CW99 Online!
