I love that about Salinger.  I do the same thing, and I also notice my seeming more moody, cussing more and talking about how they don't care about anything when they read his books too.  So strange.  I think it's because he shows relationships where it seems like the characters are only concerned with themselves and disregard other characters' feelings.  I think this attitude is then pushed into life and applied to people the reader actually knows, because it too often seems true.  It gives me a well nobody cares about anything , so why should I mood.  It's depressing, but for some reason I like it.
