Suzanne is up there with folks like Sundeep Dugal and Matt K--this
list has collected some fine thinkers and on occasion they leave, and
yes, I remember and miss them. But it makes those of us who stick
around wonder, except this list, like Salinger, is something I live
with and hope to stay living with.

I too missed the vitriol boiling over, and like Tim, have kept peace
with others via my delete key. In the early days of lists, flame wars
were more frequent...perhaps the stakes seemed higher...but the truth
is that we are here because we are sensitive to language in a variety
of ways and sometimes the nerve that is struck runs deep and needs
root canal. (That last image came to me courtesy of Saturday's
emergency dentistry.) I'm sad that Suzanne has left--her
contributions were admirable--but if she feel better doing it I can
respect her and go on. List life for me is good because there's a
dynamic flow of people and ideas and I have confidence it will
continue. will
