"I still say you all live in my world, whether you want to or not. Perhaps it's just that some of you believe that by saying the right prayers, by mouthing the magic words, you can get yourselves somewhere else for a time. I still see no evidence that such talking to oneself is anything but a pretty delusion."

John,

This is perhaps more terrifying than the transvestite movie star and black dresses. I speak of an argument as "divine," to refer back to divine omnipresence. It was exactly this revelation, and this revelation alone, that ended Franny's crisis. Such a revelation differs from the pilgrim's prayer, in that it is a Truth rather than "magic words" uttered with the hope of finding Truth.

I was thinking of writing a short allegorical critique of Modernism, played out in a little kid's bedroom in the night. Would it bother you too terribly if I called the monster lurking in the closet The Omlor?

The door could creak open, and The Omlor's inexorable roar will resound throughout the dark room... "YOU LIVE IN MY WORLD"

Holden's rebellion in vain?
