Laura, In her previous post which I erroneously deleted, she mentioned that she had seen Dustin Hoffman's performance as Willy Loman and thus couldn't see him as Jay Gatsby. I think that his perofrmance as Loman reinforces my belief that he could be Gatsby. Aren't Willy and Jay both living in an America of their own creation? I think there's a tremendous amount of silmilarity between the two. Which I didn't realize until you brought it up. I love that version of Death of a Salesman. I'm an inveterate whistler in elevators, and Malkovich is one of my favorites. i don't know if I whistle in elevators now out of some deep seated need to whistle or as a homage to Malkovich's Biff.
