sorry I misunderstood paul--your q is quite good! I do recall that
DDSBP was one of the few Salinger stories to be published outside of
the US first...I don't have anything handy, but I think the story was
first published in a british magazine called "World" sometime around
l948...at my age memory is more often wrong than not, but that's my
guess on a tired friday afternoon when I should be home walking
