Hi all!

I'm glad to see that there are some other Ani fans on this list!

I live in Australia and have only been introduced to her in the last
8 months or so.

I was previously an Alanis fan and I still am, but frankly, the
honesty and power of Ani de franko's beatiful lyrics piss all over the
poppy-teen angst (record company generated) bs in many of Alanis'
songs.

I began to realise Alanis' lack of integrity after I went to one of her
concerts in Sydney at the end of last year. Don't get me wrong, even
though I was at the back of a huge stadium, her energy level was
astounding and my friends and I had a great night..

However, she is selling a powerful angry strong woman image in a way
that has mass appeal. The majority of people at the concert were 12-15
year olds (mainly girls), on the verge of the terrifying plunge into
adulthood, looking desperatly for a role model to help guide them.

Alanis has obviously struck a chord here; and whether or not this is a
good thing is debateable (it's centainly been good for her hip pocket).
However, soon after I saw the concert, I saw an Alanis live in Vancouver
(I think) TV special and I realised how fake she actually was. The
performance- right down to all of the apparent "spontinaety" of her
actions (eg taking over the drum kit and playing "We will rock you") was
totally choriographed. Man was I pissed off! Now I'm not saying that I
expect all of her performances to be unique, but what about a bit of
Tori/Ani-like honest spontinaety?

Unfotunately, I am yet to see Ani live on stage, but I know when Tori's
up there, anything goes. She is beatifully unpredictable. The only thing
that is certain is that her performance will always be outstanding.
