Yep, the riot girrls and others that later created that category have been around since the 70's.... it does seem to me that alanis is very much genericizing their music and trying to make it popular, cool & appealing to a mainstream audience---which is kinda beside the point. If you want that musical anger, there are tons of bands that do it with more sincerity and way more musical talent than her.
