Well, the fiddle Vidal is certainly a novel association
that wouldn't have occurred to me. BURR is staring at
me from the book shelf across the room even as I type
but I'm not responsible for his purchase & never actually
opened his covers. I did read JULIAN with enjoyment
many years ago. But I can't say in retrospect there was,
for me, all that much reminiscent of Buddy in its narrator.

Though. Salinger (or, rather, Buddy) & Vidal in his
essayist garb DO share something of the same preening,
    queenly self-satisfaction.

I find Vidal the bitchy polemicist pretty good fun.
Buddy the lovable expatiator sets my teeth on edge.
